Porthkerris Club Trip June 2025

Waves Shape

Nine members of the club made the long trek to Porthkerris, Cornwall, for 3 days diving on the 19/20/21st June. We used the Celtic Kitten, run by Porthkerris Divers from the beach on a shuttle basis.

The weather was generally good, but a sharp easterly on the first day created too much swell for the boats. We decided to head over to the other side of the Lizard peninsula to Mullion Cove for a calmer shore dive around the harbour breakwater.

A beach BBQ was arranged for us in the evening by Gino at the Beach-Bites cafe – yummy!

The wind changed direction overnight to a westerly, so we were able to board the Celtic Kitten and drop onto the wreck of the Volnay in the morning, and do an easy drift dive at Lowland Point in the afternoon. We spotted some huge octopus, along with spider crabs, crayfish and other critters.

After working up an appetite during the day we tucked into Chicken Jalfrezi or Chickpea Curry at the Beach-Bites in the evening, and made friends with the local goats

On the final day we dived the wrecks of the Spyridon and Mohegan – a short swim away from each other, followed by an afternoon drift dive through the gullies at Pancra Head, with plenty of of life and Day-Glo Jewel Anemones to see.

Some of the group made their way back home after, whilst the rest went to Roskilly’s for an awesome meal in a Mediterranean-like setting

All in all, an excellent long-weekend that felt like a holiday!
