New to diving?

Safety stopScuba diving is a great adventure sport, whether it’s exploring the many wrecks scattered around the British coastline, drifting along on a scenic dive looking for creatures and critter or diving further a field in warmer clearer waters, there’s usually something for everyone.

If you’re not really sure whether you’re going to enjoy it or not then the best way to be introduced to this great sport is with a try-dive. Alternatively if you want to jump straight in, then the first rung on the BSAC diving ladder is the Ocean Diver qualification.

Diving isn’t just about diving, the day trips, weekends and weeks away are also a great social occasion.

Try-Dive

Try diveA try-dive is a great introduction to scuba diving as it will give you a brief taste of the diving experience in a safe environment. A try-dive where ever you go usually consists of a short briefing to explain a few safety rules and to introduce to the scuba equipment before you actually use it. This is followed by a short diving session in safe surrounding. With Bicester Sub-Aqua club you’ll be able to experience the fun and enjoyment of scuba diving with one of our instructors or assistant instructors. You’ll have a one hour session in the swimming pool where you’ll be able to try the basic scuba gear for yourself. If you want to find out more, contact our try diver coordinator to discuss your requirements.

BSAC Ocean Diver Qualification

On the boatThe first level BSAC scuba diving qualification you can achieve is the ocean diver qualification. All the training is done by qualified instructors within the club environment and done at your own pace. It consists of classroom lessons followed by a theory assessment, 5 confined water (swimming pool) training lessons and then 5 qualifying dives in open water. As a BSAC ocean diver, your qualification allows you to dive to 20m with another BSAC Ocean Diver or Sports Diver with the restrictions of the conditions already encountered during training. Dive with a BSAC Dive leader or higher grade to expand your diving skills.
